Mrs Rambling Motorist and I have recently been considering our camping arrangements.  We tow our utility box trailer “Daisy” behind “Oskar” and it carries everything from the tent, to the beach toys, bicycles, and even has WiFi, a fridge, and, a drop down breakfast bar.  Oh and for Mr Rambling Motorist, a whisky cabinet.

Daisy

It was built by myself for the South of France run in 2017 which it did rather well in carrying everything we need.  However, our family holiday plans have steadily changed as our children became older.  You can see the size of the bikes in one of the pictures.  These days my children seem to like two camp sites in Cornwall, and one in Dorset, and we find it is easier and far cheaper to get there than France.  They used to like helping to put up the large 8 berth tent we have, for the four of us, but, now it is a teenage chore.  Bless them.

Our tent is ageing, and we found a tiny hole which we patched, but, we think it would have to be replaced soon anyway.  Perhaps we should search for a cheap second hand caravan.  “Daisy” and the tent could be sold and the funds go towards a caravan.

I looked around for an oldish caravan, but one that had a chassis number that would allow me to add it to the CRIS (Central Registration and Identification Scheme) in order to get insurance, a requirement of our caravan storage yard.  My search on a well known online auction website came up with a tidy looking four berth 1994 single axle Elddis Typhoon XL.  I really wanted a twin axle, but, this one met all of our needs and was close to us, and more importantly, at the right price.  I bought it and named him “Colin”.  He came with all the water bottles, pipes, kitchenware, pots, pans and plates, but, no spare wheel and tyre.

We plan to go away at the end of next month, and into August for our annual two week holiday.  I will let you know how we all get on with “Colin”.  Now, please excuse me, but I need to go and roll my mouse over to that well known online auction website again, and look for a spare wheel for an Elddis caravan.
